New Books for the New Year

New Books for the New Year

Our boys love to be read to and look at books on their own. It really warms our heart to see the joy of reading in them. As we begin a new year, we have found some great new books. We get several books from the library each week, but others we have at home or got from relatives. Did you know that reading to children beginning in infancy can help promote increased vocabulary and reading skills according to the American Academy of Pediatrics? We should be surrounding our kids with books all over the house to help spark of sense of wonder.

Please know that since I am a boy Momma, some of these are more geared towards boys, but feel free to expand your collection.

This book has bright vivid pictures that tells the story of harvest on a farm through the seasons. It shows how the Dad who is the farmer brings along his kids and wife to help him when the harvest comes in. I love that he talks to his tractor, so sweet. I am not sure if there is one particular part of the book that Stanley really loves, but he keeps picking it off the bookshelf.

For obvious reasons, this is one of Stanley’s favorite books. The story is of a family with a family dog that wakes them up at night with various sounds and smells. It all leads up with them flying the house to the moon so Stanley could be with someone- another dog! Adorable.

I got this book a few months before our family vacation to San Francisco. I am so very glad that I did. We were able to read it many times to Stanley and Harvey before our trip. They got to see the illustrations of the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman’s Wharf. It really helped them picture the new sights and sounds. Now that we have come back home, we still love to read it together to talk about all that we saw while on vacation. Making memories and remembering them.

We got this book out of the library last week and Stanley keeps asking to read it. These two cute monkeys run to a tree to protect themselves from a predator. They stick to together and use their skills to stay safe. It is never to soon to learn to use your brain to help you. It is super cute!
